Food, Vampires and Summer Heat!

phoenixA friend of mine gave me a box full of crockpot recipes for Christmas and now that the temperature in the desert has reached triple digits, (who wants to turn on the oven) I thought I’d give them a try. My cooking skills are smoking around the house, as in, the smoke detector has gone off so dinner must be done :/ I’ve been known to follow a spaghetti sauce recipe to a “T” and even the dog refused to eat it! LOL
To mine, and everyone elses, surprise, my first attempt was successful so I thought I’d pass it along. After all, I’d rather spend my time writing than cooking! I’ve thrown in an excerpt from PHOENIX to whet your appetite!

1 jar or bag (32 ounces) of sauerkraut, drained
2 cup shredded swiss cheese
3 packages, corned beef, shredded – I used a pre-cooked 1 pound pkg but deli meat will do
1 stick of margarine
1 egg beaten – can be left out in a pinch or for cholesterol purposes

Here’s the easy part, chuck it all in slow cooker, stir, cover and cook for 2 hours on HIGH.
That’s it! I served mine on rye toast but if you want to use it for a party dip, you can use rye cocktail bread or rye crackers.

Now go grab a book and enjoy the dog days of summer!

Excerpt from PHOENIX:

“I love to watch your eyes glaze over in ecstasy while I devour you, my love,” he
crooned before tasting me once again.

I fisted my hands into the silky strands of his hair and lost all sense of sanity as he
tormented my body with long, slow swirls of his skillful tongue. When I thought I could
take no more, he slipped his tongue inside me and suckled on my center until I could only
see white bursts of pleasure through my closed eyelids. My head thrashed from side to
side. His pace relaxed and the slower he slid in and out of me, the more intense the
pleasure became that shuddered through me until my body burst with rapture and insanity
all at once. I screamed his name with my release, but Ian kept his mouth in place,
drinking down my pleasure—as if it were the blood he existed upon.

Only when my body stopped convulsing did Ian lift his head with a satisfied smile
that melted my heart. Ian was no selfish lover. My pleasure was his, as his was mine.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Dragging sore feet, Viola moved along the darkened corridor through the vast mansion, wishing she’d brought a lamp or candle, then happy she hadn’t. She was so weary and wretched, she must look like she’d been through a squall. And to be so wretched after her sister had thrown her a fabulous party made her more wretched yet.

Halfway along the corridor she met a pair of matrons, gray head-to gray head, still gossiping madly. She bade them goodnight, they waved, never ceasing their whispered chatter, and she slogged along on blistered toes and heels.

Five minutes of slogging later it occurred to her that she was once again lost. This time quite literally. Amber circles from sconces lit the corridor at long intervals. She recognized nothing, not the side table nor the painting on the wall; she had never been in this corridor of the earl’s house. Voices came from a distance. The ubiquitous footmen seemed to have eschewed their ubiquity.

She halted and turned around. Jin was walking toward her. Her heart did an awful leap against her rib cage.

“What is the chance that I get myself lost and you appear out of nowhere to take me back where I belong?” she whispered very unsteadily.

“No chance.” He came right to her, as close as he had on the terrace the last time he spoke to her, and at the library door when he did not. “I was looking for you.”

“Me?” She could not bridle her tongue; it was apparently firmly attached to her heart.

“Are you certain you weren’t looking for Lady Fiona, rather?”

“Quite certain.” His crystal eyes covered her all at once, it seemed, her face and hair, shoulders and the place where her quick breaths pressed her breasts against her bodice. She wanted him to look at her like this, but he had looked at her this way before and then rejected her.

“She wants you,” she uttered, trying to push him away with words.

“I don’t want her.” He grasped her arms, not gently, and bent over her mouth. “I want you.” Then, finally, he kissed her again.

The rules of being a proper lady

1) Never take steps greater than six inches apart
2) Never look boldly at a gentleman
3) And never, ever kiss a man who is not your fiancé…
But beautiful, bold Viola Carlyle doesn’t care about the rules. And she desperately wants to kiss the notoriously tempting Captain Jin Seton, the man who brought her kicking and fighting back to English society. Kidnapped as a child, now she longs to return to that life of freedom where she was able to live—and love—as she wished.

Having hunted Viola for two years, Jin Seton has finally found his good luck—for by finding Viola his oldest, deepest debt will at last be paid. And although he has vowed not to let her win his heart, this very improper lady might finally be the one who tames him.

Ah, Labor Day. The official end of summer. Most of us will celebrate with family and friends enjoying backyard barbecues or even a dip in the pool. While we celebrate the working men and women, let’s not forget those who keep us safe while we frolic in the last of the summer fun. For example, the hard working firemen who not only put out fires but start a few burning sensations as well;   and remember to thank those who stand in places we don’t want to know exist   and have given everything for our freedom.

Her ex-fiancé, Joaquin Wildhorse, was unable to accept her gifts and gave himself to another. Ian Nightwalker was more than willing to soothe her broken heart.

With a prominent member of The Marquis, the vampire ruling council, intent of coming to Leah’s hometown, the threat of Chaos touching everyone she loves brings her down a path that leads to Joaquin Wildhorse and Ian Nightwalker once again.

Is Leah willing to risk her heart to save the small desert town she loves?

After one particularly long night, I poured myself a glass of wine and filled the tub. As I was about to ease into the rose-scented water, the bathroom light went out. I reached for the gun I had left on the counter before I realized that only the bathroom light had gone out. The hallway was still lit and I could still hear the soft music I’d left playing in the living room. The bulb had to be broken.

Making a mental note to pick up some spare light bulbs tomorrow, I pulled matches out of a drawer and lit the scented candle on the counter. I sank into the tub as the candlelight flickered and the scent of jasmine filled the room. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. That’s when I realized I was no longer alone.
